Myrcene is a terpene compound found in many plants, including mangoes, hops, cannabis, lemon grass, and thyme. The compound is believed to be pharmacologically active, with one study concluding that it may have a weak, indirect opioid effect.[1] The effect is believed to result from α2 receptors.

The presence of myrcene and other terpenes in cannabis is believed to play a role in the medical and psychological differences between cannabis indica and cannabis sativa.
