Theanine

Theanine is an amino acid analogue found in tea. Theanine has a synergistic relationship with caffeine, and is included in many nootropic stacks.[1][2]

Theanine is most likely why tea "punches above its weight" as far as caffeine content, with a typical serving of tea (8 oz, 237 mL) only having 25-50 mg caffeine, versus 75-130 mg for coffee.
